CD Projekt Red's remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt includes combat adjustments intended to bring the game closer to a modern standard, but early impressions suggest the fundamental gameplay experience remains largely unchanged.
While much of the discussion surrounding the remaster has focused on graphical enhancements, CDPR has also emphasized its work on combat mechanics. Executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba stated the goal was to make the game feel as if it were released in the present day, noting that developers have become so accustomed to the remaster's improvements that returning to the original version is difficult. However, a playtester's experience indicates that these changes may not drastically alter the feel of combat.
Initial gameplay footage of the remastered combat shows that Geralt remains somewhat twitchy, and the dodge button is still a frequently used mechanic. For those who enjoyed the original combat in 2015, these familiar elements will likely be welcome. However, players who were put off by the original gameplay and were hoping for a significant overhaul might find the updated combat system still too similar to its predecessor.
