The Super Famicom version of the influential RPG Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge is set to launch on Steam in 2027. The port is being developed by D4Enterprise and published by Drecom.

Wizardry, first released in 1981, is a foundational series for many modern RPGs, including Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Shin Megami Tensei, and FromSoftware's Souls games. While the original series saw considerable success in Japan, spawning over 40 spin-offs exclusive to the region, the upcoming Steam release marks a new opportunity for PC players to experience a piece of this legacy.

This particular entry, Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge, originally released for the Super Famicom in 1995. It was notable for introducing full-color graphics to the series and for offering more intricate character creation and progression systems than its predecessors. Gameplay features turn-based combat, with players utilizing melee skills and six schools of magic. The game draws from mythology, literature, and folklore, incorporating elements such as references to Alice in Wonderland and creatures like hobbits and vampires.

The narrative of Bane of the Cosmic Forge centers on a wicked lord and a sorcerer who wielded the "Cosmic Forge," a magical artifact that makes written words reality. Their conflict and the fate of the Forge remain a mystery that new adventurers are about to uncover upon entering the castle.

Wizardry 6-1

While the Steam version aims to preserve the original atmosphere of the Super Famicom release, there are currently no plans for an English localization or ports on platforms other than PC. This release offers a chance for retro RPG enthusiasts to engage with a classic title that might otherwise be inaccessible on modern hardware.
