World of Warcraft is set to revisit one of its most celebrated expansions, Wrath of the Lich King, with a new remix event. This announcement was made during the World of Warcraft: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon.
This 'remix' format transforms existing expansions into limited-time in-game events. Players begin at level one and rapidly progress to the maximum level, acquiring powerful and often unconventional abilities. Completing objectives within the remix earns currency redeemable for unique rewards, such as cosmetics, mounts, and pets, which can then be transferred to the standard game. Blizzard intends to accelerate through the major patches and events of each expansion, allowing participants to experience them in a condensed timeframe.
Previous remix events, including those for Mists of Pandaria and Legion, proved popular during periods between major content releases. The announcement of a Wrath of the Lich King remix follows community speculation about which expansion would be chosen next, with some concerns that it might be a less popular entry. Wrath of the Lich King is widely considered Blizzard's most iconic and beloved expansion. It also serves as a thematic prelude to the upcoming expansion, The Last Titan, which is set in a modernized version of Northrend, the original setting of Wrath of the Lich King.
Specific details regarding the Wrath of the Lich King remix have not yet been disclosed, but it is slated for release in the summer of 2027.
