World of Warcraft senior game designer Josh Greenfield has officially confirmed that the Paladin class is a "dad class," a reputation the in-game role has seemingly earned.
During a discussion with GameSpot at BlizzCon, Greenfield and senior art director Jeff Parrott elaborated on their favorite classes. When Greenfield's affinity for the Paladin was brought up, he readily agreed with the sentiment. "Certainly" a dad class, Greenfield explained, "You know, I'm not a dad, I'm a dog dad, but I've got the dad bod, so Paladin is totally a dad class."
Paladins are characterized by their heavy armor, ability to heal allies, and protective capabilities, often serving as the bulwark of a party. This role requires a dependable and responsible approach, fitting the stereotype of a caregiver tasked with keeping others safe while still contributing significant damage. While the class is not exclusive to players who are fathers, Greenfield's comments suggest that a Paladin's enthusiastic focus on party organization and protection might stem from a paternal instinct.
World of Warcraft Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, with a playable beta set to go live on September 17.
