World of Warcraft Forever Beta Extended, Name Reservations Open Next Week

The beta for World of Warcraft Forever has been extended by three days, Blizzard announced, shifting the end date to October 23 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. This extension comes after significant player engagement, with over one million characters created during the beta period since its September launch.

Following the beta's conclusion, players will have the opportunity to reserve names for three characters starting October 27. The full launch of World of Warcraft Forever is scheduled for November 4, requiring an active subscription or a temporary friend code for access.

Blizzard has aimed to preserve the authentic feel of early World of Warcraft in WoW Forever, deliberately omitting certain modern quality-of-life features like shared tagging. However, the project does incorporate beloved content such as the 'Kyle's Gone Missing' quest from Mulgore. The development team has expressed surprise at the high player turnout for the temporary test version of the Classic+ game mode.

Despite the largely positive reception, the beta has seen some controversies. Blizzard has implemented measures to combat gold selling and has enforced strict rules regarding character names. Additionally, players have encountered griefing tactics, such as the placement of campfires in spawn areas intended to cause new players to die before the introductory cinematic concludes.

Players who have yet to participate in the beta still have a few days to experience it, though progress made will be deleted upon the game's full release.
