World of Warcraft Forever Beta Population Cap Increased Again Amidst High Demand

Blizzard Entertainment has once again increased the player population cap for the World of Warcraft Forever beta, as the game continues to experience unexpectedly high demand following its announcement at BlizzCon 2026. The latest adjustment comes after previous increases, indicating a sustained and significant player interest that is testing Blizzard's server capacity.

Holly Londale, executive producer for World of Warcraft, announced the latest population cap increase on X, stating the team "had to increase the WoW: Forever Beta population cap again. The wild ride continues." This marks at least the second such adjustment since the beta officially launched on September 17.

The strong reception to the Forever beta has surprised even veteran developers. Josh Greenfield, a developer at Blizzard, noted on X that the numbers seen during the beta were the "craziest numbers I've seen in 17 years working at Blizzard." This enthusiastic response, even before the game's full public release, suggests a promising future for the title.

Understanding World of Warcraft Forever

World of Warcraft Forever is positioned as a "Classic plus" version of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game. It will operate alongside the retail version, which receives new expansions, and Classic, which progresses through past expansions. Forever specifically focuses on the first year of vanilla World of Warcraft but will introduce several changes and new content.

The game will feature a level cap of 60 and include three new zones not present in the original World of Warcraft launch. Additionally, existing zones will be revamped with over 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, and two new raids. A new playable race, the Skyborne Elves, will also be introduced. The beta is scheduled to run until October 21, with the full release set for November 4. Access to World of Warcraft Forever will be included with the standard World of Warcraft subscription, though the Skyborne Elves race will be available as a separate purchase for $29.99.
