World of Warcraft Forever's beta has drawn impressive numbers, with over 1 million characters created since the testing phase began last month. This milestone was reported by classicplus.io, a community website that tracks data from the beta.
Access to the beta primarily requires purchasing the $30 Skyborne pack. Despite this cost, player engagement remains high. However, the Skyborne race is not the most popular choice among players. Humans are the preferred race for the Alliance at 32.3%, while the Undead are favored by the Horde at 33.5%. The Skyborne, a blue elf race, account for only 18.7% of characters created across both factions.
It is important to note that WoW Forever has not yet officially launched. The full game is slated for release on November 4. Currently, the beta features a level cap of 30 and limited world access. All character progress will be wiped upon the full game's launch.
The significant player activity during the beta period, especially with the knowledge of impending character wipes, is a positive indicator for the game's upcoming launch. This engagement occurs even as World of Warcraft Forever prepares to launch just two weeks after Grand Theft Auto 6.
Developers at Blizzard have previously expressed surprise at the beta's popularity, with one developer noting it was generating "the craziest numbers" seen in 17 years at the company. The beta has also faced some controversies, including Blizzard's crackdown on character names and gold selling, which has affected some streamers. Amidst these issues, Blizzard has also added the "Kyle's Gone Missing" quest, a popular addition from the Burning Crusade expansion.
