Blizzard is making final adjustments to racial abilities in World of Warcraft: Forever, the upcoming expansion, just weeks before its November 4 launch. The developer announced significant changes to abilities for Tauren, Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, and Skyborne Elves in response to player feedback gathered during the game's beta period.
Community manager Kaivax explained in a forum post that the goal of these revisions is to "prioritize racial identity," acknowledging that this approach may result in certain races being inherently more effective in specific combat roles. Blizzard is also reverting some changes that replaced role or class-focused racials with more generic ones.
Weapon-specialization abilities, previously present for Humans and Orcs in WoW Classic and early beta stages of Forever, will not be returning in their previous form. Blizzard cited concerns that such abilities could unduly influence future loot table considerations. Instead, the developer is fine-tuning remaining passive bonuses to prevent them from limiting player choice.
Humans, often considered a highly optimal race due to their passive abilities, have seen some adjustments. Their Ruthless passive now grants a 1% critical strike chance, down from 2%, while their Human Spirit passive has been buffed to increase Spirit by 10%, up from 5%.
Tauren have received substantial buffs to their Plainsrunning ability, which now grants 2% movement speed per stack for a total increase of 60%, a significant boost from the previous 30%. However, this change removes the bonus to mounted movement speed and the hit chance and critical damage modifiers from their Endurance passive, which now only increases Health by 5%.
Orcs have had their 1% increased critical strike chance removed. In its place, the Command passive has been re-added, providing a 5% increase to Warlock and Hunter pet damage.
Dwarves no longer benefit from a passive critical damage bonus. Instead, they gain a 1% chance to hit with both spells and attacks through a new passive.
The newest race, Skyborne Elves, also face modifications. The haste bonus from their Wind-Blessed ability has been reduced to 2% from 3%. Additionally, using their Skysight and Read Leyline abilities at specific elemental convergence or leyline sites now yields stronger, persistent effects. Read Leyline at a leyline site now grants an "Attuned" buff for one hour, increasing Mana and Health regeneration by 100% and persisting through death. Skysight at an elemental convergence grants a "Charged" buff for one hour, increasing movement speed by 30% and also persisting through death.
These updates follow other recent announcements regarding Forever, including the addition of a PvP server option and planned improvements to the game's layering system before launch.
