World of Warcraft: Forever, a reimagined version of the original game featuring updated talent trees, new raids and dungeons, and enhanced graphics, will include a Hardcore mode. The developers confirmed the addition during the "What's Next" panel at BlizzCon, with production director Clayton Stone expressing enthusiasm for the mode's potential.
"Hardcore represented a turning point for us as a team," Stone stated. "Blizzard and the community came together, and showed not only why World of Warcraft is one of the greatest games ever made, but why that original adventure still holds so much promise for where we could go in the future. Which is why I am also so proud to announce that Hardcore will be coming to WoW Forever as well."
The popularity of Classic Hardcore, where player characters are deleted upon death, made its inclusion in Forever unsurprising. However, the upcoming iteration of Azeroth will introduce new content, including dungeons, raids, and quests, which are expected to create novel dangers for players attempting a permadeath run.
This increased potential for unexpected deaths is likely why the Hardcore mode is slated for release in the winter, rather than at the game's launch in November. The extended development time will allow players to meticulously plan strategies and explore the new content, catering to the community's well-known penchant for min-maxing and optimizing their gameplay.
