World of Warcraft: Forever Hides Over 12,500 Items in Beta

World of Warcraft: Forever is actively concealing more than 12,500 items from dataminers as its beta phase continues. This strategic secrecy affects nearly 40% of the game's approximately 32,000 items, with players able to see that these items exist and their potential sources, but not their specific stats or effects. Developers are reportedly aiming to infuse the game's leveling and endgame experiences with novelty by introducing numerous new or modified items, some of which appear to be original to WoW: Forever, while others may be altered versions of items from WoW Classic.

Players participating in the beta have already begun to uncover these hidden elements, having discovered over 4,400 of the concealed items. Once an item is identified by a player, it becomes visible in the game's backend. While datamining efforts have revealed some items that were originally part of WoW Classic's Season of Discovery, it remains uncertain if all of these will be implemented in Forever. A substantial number of the hidden items are expected to originate from raids and dungeons, including new tier sets. So far, beta testers have identified several item sets and full loot tables for early-game dungeons such as Wailing Caverns, Ragefire Chasm, Shadowfang Keep, and the Deadmines.

The current beta level cap is 20, with plans to increase it to 30 before the beta concludes, suggesting that more dungeon loot will be uncovered. The sense of mystery and discovery is a significant factor contributing to the beta's popularity, with Blizzard VP Holly Longdale noting that the beta is setting new player-number records, necessitating an increase in the player population cap. However, the beta has also faced controversy, particularly a recent scandal involving gold trading that has prompted player demands for more robust measures against real-money transactions and gold buying.

WoW: Forever's beta is scheduled to end on October 21, with the full game set to launch on November 4. The new version of the MMO will feature over 1,000 new quests set in classic Azeroth, alongside new zones and endgame content. While no new class will be available at launch, a recent Blizzard survey indicated 11 potential new classes that could be introduced to WoW: Forever in the future.
