World of Warcraft Forever is set to launch, accompanied by a comprehensive set of patch notes addressing significant class adjustments, racial ability nerfs, and the full implementation of controller support. Blizzard has focused on refining each class's identity, with many changes stemming from a desire to move beyond direct adaptations of Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King era solutions.
Class and Racial Adjustments
The developers aim to distill combat into a unique identity for Forever, with some class changes rolling back previous decisions to better fit the game's model. While major class tuning is unlikely before raids open next month, Blizzard will address bugs and significant outliers. A large tuning pass is expected after gathering sufficient player data from endgame content.
Racial abilities have also seen adjustments, with Dwarves and Orcs losing certain passive abilities. Humans' Ruthless ability now grants a 1% critical strike chance, down from 2%, while Trolls receive a longer duration for their Berserking ability.
Numerous detailed class changes have been implemented across Druids, Hunters, Mages, Paladins, Priests, Rogues, Shamans, Warlocks, and Warriors. These span adjustments to talent trees, spell efficacy, mana costs, and cooldowns, with a particular emphasis on enhancing unique class strengths and gameplay moments.
Full Controller Functionality
Controller support in World of Warcraft: Forever has reached a "complete functional state," allowing for full gamepad control across all major gameplay and user interface elements. This includes movement, spellcasting, UI navigation, and interaction. Customization options for gamepad settings are available through the Edit Mode and Options menus.
The implementation includes improved action bar functionality for gamepad users, with area-of-effect items now placeable at targeted locations. Add-on compatibility has also been enhanced to reduce interface conflicts. Bag and inventory management have seen significant visual and functional upgrades, including clearer bag states, remaining space indicators, and improved navigation.
Combat and targeting systems have been refined for controllers, enabling targeting of previously assigned focus targets, friendly corpses, and critters. Enemy players are now more reliably targeted by hostile analog targeting, regardless of PvP flag status. Cinematics can be skipped, and flight paths can be ended early using controller inputs.
World and Item Changes
Respawn rates in various world zones have been adjusted to accommodate high player volumes at launch, with faster rates in lower-level zones that will be scaled back once the initial surge subsides. Quest experience values, prerequisites, and level settings have also been modified to improve world flow, and mouseover tooltips for objectives have been added. Some quests have had their associated item dependencies corrected. Notably, certain satyr were reclassified from humanoids to demons.
Items, specifically bags, will no longer automatically equip. Players must now manually equip bags into available slots.
