World of Warcraft: Forever, a new throwback iteration of the long-running MMORPG, has experienced one of the strongest launches in the game's history, according to Blizzard. Amidst this surge of players returning to Azeroth, Daniel Gobey, known online as 'JokerD,' has once again claimed the world-first title for reaching the maximum level.
Gobey was famously the first player to hit the level 60 cap when World of Warcraft Classic launched in 2019. He achieved that record by exploiting certain server mechanics for a swift ascent. This time, for Forever, he reached the cap in just three days, reportedly by utilizing shorter cooldowns available to Undead characters. Upon achieving the milestone, a Game Master appeared to congratulate Gobey and trigger a fireworks display.
"That was awesome. That was not something I was expecting," Gobey stated. He noted that his achievement is even more remarkable given the immense player numbers for Forever. Holly Longdale, Vice President of World of Warcraft, shared her excitement, stating, "we are seeing the most NEW players for a WoW launch in 15 YEARS!" she posted on X. "Welcome all! We’re so happy you’re here experiencing Azeroth for the first time alongside those of us playing it for the first time…AGAIN."
The launch of Forever has been notably smooth, a contrast to the server issues that often plague major MMO releases. Blizzard appears to have been well-prepared with their infrastructure, managing the significant player surge effectively. This preparedness was crucial, as the game has drawn back a large number of players who have been away from Azeroth for years, alongside a substantial number of new players.
