World of Warcraft: Forever is introducing a revamped Player versus Player system designed to be more attainable for a wider audience. In a recent blog post, Blizzard announced that the notoriously demanding PvP grind of the original game has been significantly streamlined, moving away from the intense weekly competition for titles that often consumed players' lives.
New Progression System
While prestigious titles like High Warlord for Horde and Grand Marshal for Alliance will still be present, their acquisition will no longer depend on maintaining a top rank on a volatile leaderboard. Instead, the new system focuses on a currency and a point-based progression. Players will earn Honor by defeating enemy players, completing battlegrounds, and finishing PvP quests. Blizzard has standardized Honor gains across all battlegrounds to ensure consistent rewards regardless of the chosen activity.
This Honor contributes to Rank points, which unlock 14 tiers of rewards. These tiers include potent PvP gear and the coveted titles. To prevent burnout and ensure a more balanced progression, Rank points will have a weekly cap. This approach aims to make the pursuit of these rewards achievable through sustained play rather than requiring players to dedicate excessive hours or even share accounts, as was sometimes necessary in the past.
Seasonal Resets and Meta Progression
The PvP progression will be structured around seasons, which will reset with the start of new ones. This seasonal model is expected to allow Blizzard to introduce new rewards and keep the progression loop engaging. Each season will feature weekly tasks offering bonus Honor and Rank points. Additionally, a new account-wide meta-progression system called Legacy Points will be introduced, encouraging broader engagement across a player's account.
Blizzard acknowledges that this revised system may not satisfy the most hardcore veterans seeking the ultimate competitive edge. However, the design prioritizes making the game's rewarding PvP elements accessible to players who cannot commit to the extreme time investment previously required. This aligns with Forever's broader goal of capturing the spirit of the original MMO while adapting it for a modern player base with varying time commitments.
