A community investigation into World of Warcraft's Mythic dungeons has brought accusations of insider interference to light. Players scrutinizing data from Warcraft Logs, a site that records detailed in-game performance, suspect a Game Master (GM), a Blizzard employee with administrative privileges, may have unfairly assisted a player in completing a Nexus Point Xenas dungeon with a +23 keystone.
The anomaly was first identified on Reddit, where a user highlighted unusual activity within the dungeon run. While a +23 keystone is not the highest difficulty, the logs indicated an exceptionally rapid defeat of trash mobs before the final boss, Lothraxion. This left only two minutes to complete the encounter, a timeframe described as "tight to say the least."
The final moments of the run are particularly suspect. Logs show a swift kill of Lothraxion, followed by the defeat of one final required mob with an ability labeled "Area Death (TEST)." This ability, according to player analysis, is not part of the standard game mechanics and has a tooltip that reads, "Kills all enemies in a 30 yard radius. Cheater."
The ability was reportedly cast by a character named Daijosai, who was not a participant in the five-player dungeon group. This has led to the theory that a GM intervened to ensure the group succeeded, possibly as a favor. Further complicating the situation, one of the players in the dungeon, an Evoker named Schizofien, is a known streamer, as is the Demon Hunter, Jabuka. Neither was streaming at the time of the incident.
In an interview, the player controlling Jabuka, streamer Yiesus, admitted that a GM assisted their group. He explained that the team was struggling to complete the key, with a "GM friend" present in their voice chat. Yiesus stated he "begged the GM to do him a solid" to avoid replaying the dungeon, acknowledging that while he didn't expect the intervention, "in hindsight, he shouldn’t have done it."
Blizzard appears to be aware of the situation. A community manager, Kaivax, confirmed that developers are investigating the incident. The implications of such an act are significant for the competitive Mythic+ scene. Leaderboards track the performance of highly skilled players who earn in-game rewards for their achievements. Any unearned advantage could undermine the integrity of these rankings and potentially invalidate past results. Players are concerned about the frequency of such incidents, whether monetary exchanges were involved, and the broader impact on the game's competitive ecosystem.
While Yiesus' account offers an explanation, discrepancies remain. Warcraft Logs suggest that Lothraxion may have also been affected by game manipulation prior to the final mob's defeat. The full scope of the investigation and Blizzard's findings are pending, leaving the community to await official word on the alleged scandal.
