The Shaman class in World of Warcraft is set to receive substantial updates through the 'WoW Forever' project, impacting spells, talents, and the core mechanics of its Elemental, Enhancement, and Restoration specializations. This overhaul introduces a wealth of new abilities and reworks existing ones, aiming to provide each specialization with a more distinct identity while retaining the class's familiar elements.
New Spells and Talent Additions
'WoW Forever' brings 16 new Shaman spells and talents to the game, alongside 95 modified abilities and the removal of 8 talents. Key additions include Lava Burst for Elemental Shamans, a ranged damage spell that deals increased damage when Flame Shock is active, encouraging a more dynamic damage rotation. Lightning Overload grants Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning a chance to trigger a secondary, half-damage cast at no additional threat or mana cost, enhancing Elemental Shamans' burst potential.
Enhancement Shamans benefit from Maelstrom Weapon, a new mechanic that can stack up to five times, reducing the cast time and mana cost of the next Lightning Bolt with melee attacks. This new system complements the changes to stats like Intellect, which now contributes to Attack Power via Mental Dexterity and to spell damage and healing through Mental Quickness, reinforcing the hybrid melee-spellcaster playstyle.
Restoration Shamans gain Riptide, an instant cast heal that also applies a healing-over-time effect and increases the effectiveness of Chain Heal. Water Shield provides a new method for mana regeneration, where globes are consumed when the Shaman takes damage or critically heals, returning mana. However, only one elemental shield can be active at a time.
Reworked Totem Management
Totem management sees a significant overhaul, with new abilities allowing Shamans to save and summon groups of totems. Call of the Elements, available at level 20, allows for saving up to four totems. Call of the Ancestors and Call of the Spirits, available at levels 30 and 40 respectively, expand this capability. Totemic Recall is introduced as an instant ability that returns active totems and refunds 25% of their casting cost. While Totemic Projection remains, its cooldown has been increased.
Specialization-Specific Changes
Elemental Shamans receive further refinements, including a redesigned Elemental Alacrity talent that reduces the cast time of Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Lava Burst. The cast time for maximum rank Lightning Bolt is reduced from 3 seconds to 2.5 seconds, and Chain Lightning from 2.5 seconds to 2 seconds. Elemental Reach now affects a wider range of spells, including Fire Nova and Lava Burst, with an added range increase for Flame Shock. Elemental Mastery has been removed from the talent tree.
Enhancement Shamans are being redesigned to better blend melee attacks with spellcasting. Stormstrike now enhances the damage of the next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, or Earth Shock by 20%. The Shamanistic Rage ability is replaced by Rage of the Farseer, which increases melee and spellcasting speed by 30% for 25 seconds, but with a longer cooldown of 180 seconds compared to the original 60.
Restoration Shamans see adjustments to existing abilities alongside Riptide and Water Shield. Healing Way now directly increases the healing output of Healing Wave, rather than stacking for subsequent heals. Mana Tide Totem's range has been extended from 20 to 30 yards.
Totem Durations and Quality of Life
Several Shaman Totems will now last for five minutes, an increase from the previous two minutes. The range for many totems, including Fire Resistance, Frost Resistance, Nature Resistance, Healing Stream, Mana Spring, Strength of Earth, Grace of Air, Windwall, Tremor, and Poison Cleansing Totems, has also been extended to 30 yards. Additionally, Ghost Wolf's cast time has been reduced by three seconds, and it can now be used indoors. A number of talents have been removed, including Elemental Mastery, Enhancing Totems, Improved Weapon Totems, Nature's Guidance, Shield Specialization, Totemic Mastery, and Weapon Mastery.
