Recent adjustments to the World of Warcraft: Forever beta have led to concerns over a significant reduction in experience points (XP) from dungeon quests. However, developer notes suggest the impact may not be as drastic as initially feared, with the intention being to subtly steer players toward open-world activities.
In a development update, Blizzard stated, "We appreciate the feedback on leveling speed as we continue ongoing discussions about the Beta. As part of those discussions, we’ve decided to reduce the amount of XP granted from dungeon quests with this release. Certain quest rewards have also been recalibrated: Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values."
This change has sparked discussion, particularly regarding the XP gained from completing quests within dungeons. The design philosophy behind WoW: Forever appears to be encouraging players to complete dungeon quests once or twice to progress, then move on to the open world for further experience gains. While mob kills within dungeons yield less XP, quest rewards were previously enhanced to compensate. The recent adjustment targets the bonus XP that these quests provided on top of their base values.
An example illustrates this: the Deviate Hides quest in Wailing Caverns originally awarded 1600 XP in Classic WoW. Prior to the recent beta patch, this quest offered approximately 4650 XP. The reduction applies to the bonus XP, which was about 3050 XP. Halving this bonus would result in a reduction of roughly 1525 XP, bringing the total closer to 3100 XP. This indicates that dungeon quests remain a viable source of experience, albeit with a moderated bonus.
Developers have also emphasized that the WoW: Forever beta is an evolving environment, and such changes are subject to further adjustments. The current state of the beta indicates a month remaining for potential recalibration based on player feedback and testing.
