Fiona Sperry, former head of Burnout developer Criterion Games, has announced a sequel to the arcade racer Wreckreation, slated for release in 2025. The announcement comes despite the original game's lukewarm reception and the subsequent placement of its development studio, Three Fields Entertainment, on notice of redundancy following its release. Publisher THQ Nordic has not offered further support for the original title.

Wreckreation 2 is being developed by a newly formed studio named When Tides Turn, which is reportedly comprised of veteran staff from Three Fields Entertainment. Prior to Wreckreation, Three Fields Entertainment, based in the UK, developed games such as Dangerous Golf and the Burnout-inspired racers Danger Zone and Dangerous Driving. The sequel is slated to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though a specific release date has not yet been set. Development has reportedly been underway for approximately three months.

Sources indicate that Wreckreation 2 will feature a more condensed experience compared to its predecessor. It is expected to trade the original's expansive, albeit criticized for its lack of variety, rural map for environments with a greater urban presence. This shift suggests a closer thematic alignment with Burnout Paradise, a game that Wreckreation already drew inspiration from through its recreation of modes, sound effects, and presentation elements.

IGN's review of the original Wreckreation highlighted issues with its unpredictable handling, a dull open-world map, and repetitive event structure, ultimately making it difficult to recommend. The game was described as feeling like a less refined homage to superior arcade racers, built with user-generated content tools from another title.
