Three Fields Entertainment, the studio behind the Burnout-inspired arcade racer Wreckreation, has announced a sequel to the game and the formation of a new independent studio named When Tides Turn. This new studio will serve as the home for the Wreckreation project, which the developers stated is "built around aggression, pressure, risk, and of course consequence."

The decision to form a new studio was described by studio head Fiona Sperry as a natural next step, allowing the Wreckreation project to "have a new home, one that we own completely." The team behind the game remains the same, with the same passion and ambition to create an open-world arcade racer. "Nothing has changed about the people making the game," the studio stated in a Patreon update.

Development of Wreckreation 2 is being shaped by direct player feedback. According to Sperry, conversations with players over the past six months have influenced key aspects of the game, including handling, progression, events, and world design. The developers emphasized that they are building the game collaboratively with the community. The game's announcement was accompanied by a trailer showcasing a variety of vehicles, arcade-style handling, and numerous crashouts reminiscent of the Burnout series.

Three Fields Entertainment was formed by veterans, many with backgrounds at Criterion Games, the original developer of the Burnout franchise. While Wreckreation, released in 2025, received mixed reviews, the team is aiming to refine the experience with its successor. Players interested in Wreckreation 2 can find ongoing updates on the game's Patreon page and can also sign up for playtesting opportunities.
