The animated series X-Men '97 is crossing over into the hero shooter Marvel Rivals this week, bringing themed skins for Rogue and Gambit. Revealed officially by NetEase Games, the crossover content will launch on September 4.

The new skins are inspired by the characters' appearances in the recently concluded second season of the Disney Plus show. Gambit's skin will be based on his finale appearance, where he was possessed by Apocalypse, incorporating design elements from the villain such as blue face markings. Rogue will receive her Celestial outfit, also from the Season 2 finale.

The crossover skins will be available starting at 2 a.m. UTC on September 4. This translates to 7 p.m. PDT or 10 p.m. EDT on September 3 for players in the United States. The rarity tier for these new cosmetic items has not yet been disclosed.

Initial fan reactions to the revealed skins have been mixed. Some players have criticized Gambit's skin for appearing too similar to a previously released Dead Man's Hand costume. Rogue's skin has been described by some as uninspired. A common sentiment suggests that neither of these outfits represents the most compelling designs from X-Men '97 Season 2, with many fans favoring alternative looks for characters like Jean, Scott, and Storm that were inspired by other X-Men eras.
