Xbox players are encountering a frustrating issue where "phantom achievements" are blocking them from reaching 100% game completion, despite having unlocked the full 1,000 Gamerscore.
This glitch causes some Xbox games to display progress below the maximum threshold, even when all visible achievements have been acquired. The problem is particularly vexing for players who meticulously track their 100% completion rates, especially with Xbox reportedly developing a feature akin to PlayStation's Platinum trophies.
Developers appear to have identified the root cause of the bug. Reports suggest that the issue is linked to games that previously featured time-limited challenges offering 0 Gamerscore. These challenges, which were present in titles like Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, and Call of Duty: Ghosts, as well as some non-gaming apps, provided bonus achievements and in-game content for completion. While these 0G achievements did not contribute to the main 1,000 Gamerscore total and were not always visible on a game's primary achievement list, they remained associated with the game's data. The current glitch seems to be surfacing these hidden achievements.
Eden Marie, an Xbox engineering lead, acknowledged the problem on X, stating, "We're looking into why this changed. Thanks for the report!" The company is investigating the cause behind this unexpected behavior that is impacting players' ability to achieve full completion status in affected games.
