Microsoft has revealed new pricing for its Xbox Cloud Gaming service for users who do not subscribe to Game Pass, alongside upcoming changes to hour limits for Game Pass subscribers. These adjustments are slated to become available to a wider audience in November, with current details applying to Xbox Insiders, a free program open to all.
Cloud Playtime Packs for Non-Subscribers
For players outside of the Game Pass ecosystem, Microsoft will offer 'cloud playtime packs.' These packs provide access to cloud gaming features such as ad-free streaming, reduced wait times, and enhanced stream quality. The introductory pricing for these packs is as follows:
- 10 hours for $4
- 25 hours for $8
- 50 hours for $12
Microsoft has stated that these prices are introductory and may be subject to change. A version of Xbox cloud gaming that includes advertisements is also accessible to Xbox Insiders without a Game Pass membership.
Game Pass Hour Limits and Adjustments
Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass will see changes to their cloud gaming access in November. Microsoft is implementing monthly hour limits, with options to purchase additional playtime for those who exceed their included allocation. The planned monthly hour allowances are:
- Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
- Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
- Game Pass Essential: 5 hours
Microsoft acknowledges this represents a 'meaningful change' for regular cloud gamers, estimating that these new limits will affect approximately 4% of Game Pass subscribers. The company has not, however, provided specific data to support this projection.
In related Xbox news, recent reports indicate that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is considering a significant restructuring of the Game Pass service. This potential overhaul could allow subscribers to customize their Game Pass subscription by selecting preferred features and opting out of others.
