Xbox's latest console update, currently rolling out to Xbox Insiders, brings significant improvements to how players manage their data and personalize their experience. The update introduces more granular control over local game saves, allowing users to selectively delete older or unneeded save files rather than the entire local save data.

Under a new "Manage Local Game Saves" section in the settings, players can now view and sort their local saves by size. This feature aims to help users free up valuable storage space. While recent save data will continue to be backed up automatically and synced across devices, the ability to manually choose and delete specific local saves marks a notable shift in user control. Previously, players could only remove all local save data at once.

The update also refines the console's home screen experience. Users will find it easier to remove tiles from the "Recent Games and Apps" list, including the entire "Play History" tile. For those who prefer a more minimalist interface, a new immersive background mode will allow players to hide the home page UI with a click of the right thumbstick, bringing the background art to the forefront.

Profile customization receives an upgrade with enhanced clarity for profile badges. Detailed information about each badge, including unlock conditions and dates, will now be viewable. This includes a new "Day One" badge for players who achieved the Day One achievement on the Xbox One's launch day, November 22, 2013.

Quality-of-life improvements extend to wishlists, where purchased games will now be automatically removed. These updates follow a recent console patch that added the ability to include chat audio in game captures, offered more control over cloud saves, and expanded wishlist capacity. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who assumed leadership in February, has prioritized console updates as part of a broader business "reset" initiative, which has also involved organizational changes and studio divestments within the company.
