Sony has secured a marketing exclusivity deal for Grand Theft Auto 6 with Rockstar Games, limiting what Microsoft can openly promote regarding the title on its platform. In a creative workaround, Xbox has unveiled a one-of-a-kind Xbox Series X console integrated into a large, animatronic alligator.

The custom-built "Xbox Series X-BITE" measures over five feet from snout to tail and features an illuminated Xbox Nexus within its body, through which the console is visible. A controller with "bite marks" rests in its jaws, and the creature sports Xbox-green irises. The company announced the unique creation as part of a sweepstakes.

While the campaign never explicitly mentions Grand Theft Auto 6, the accompanying teaser video features an '80s-style synth soundtrack, evoking the game's aesthetic. Xbox's official blog post states that the company is "heading to Florida" in November, a subtle nod to the game's Vice City setting. This approach mirrors marketing strategies where brands allude to major events without direct naming due to sponsorship restrictions, such as referring to the Super Bowl as "The Big Game."

The animatronic alligator was produced by John Nolan Studio, known for its work on The Witcher and Jurassic World Dominion. The "X-BITE" is not intended for mass production, and the only way to acquire it is by winning the sweepstakes.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The marketing restrictions highlight the significant promotional power Rockstar Games and the GTA franchise hold, alongside platform holders' efforts to stand out in a crowded market.
