Xbox Game Pass Adds Major Titles in Second September Wave Amidst Service Changes

Xbox Game Pass is bolstering its library with a substantial second wave of games for September 2026. Subscribers can anticipate the arrival of titles such as Ninja Gaiden 4, Dune: Awakening, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and Gears of War: E-Day.

This influx of high-profile games comes at a time when Xbox Game Pass is reportedly undergoing changes. Recent modifications include the implementation of monthly limits on cloud gaming hours, a move attributed by Microsoft to rising costs and increased usage. Furthermore, a report suggests that Microsoft may cease offering day-one releases on Game Pass as early as February to April 2027, potentially restructuring cloud gaming into a separate paid add-on and introducing new subscription tiers.

September Game Additions

The full list of games scheduled to join Xbox Game Pass in the latter half of September includes:

  • RuneScape: Dragonwilds — Sept. 15
  • Marvel Cosmic Invasion — Sept. 16
  • Planet of Lana 2 — Sept. 16
  • Routine — Sept. 16
  • Ultimate Sheep Raccoon — Sept. 16
  • Kernel Hearts — Sept. 17
  • Ninja Gaiden 4 — Sept. 17
  • Dune: Awakening — Sept. 22
  • Well Dweller — Sept. 22
  • Mad King Redemption — Sept. 23
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 — Sept. 25
  • Minecraft Dungeons 2 — Sept. 29
  • Keeper — Oct. 2
  • Gears of War: E-Day — Oct. 6

Several of these major titles will be accessible through Game Pass Premium. Notably, Ninja Gaiden 4, Dune: Awakening, and Black Ops 6 will be available via Premium. Gears of War: E-Day and Minecraft Dungeons 2 are slated as day-one releases for Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.

The lineup offers a variety of genres, from the first-person sci-fi horror of Routine and the multiplayer bike-racing of Ultimate Sheep Raccoon to the open-world survival experience of Dune: Awakening and the return of the hack-and-slash series with Ninja Gaiden 4.

Games Departing Game Pass

As is standard for the service, several games will be removed from the Game Pass library on September 30:

  • Atomfall
  • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
  • Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition
  • Little Rocket Lab
  • Sifu
  • SOPA Tale of the Stolen Potato
  • Sworn
  • Terminull Brigade

The reported potential shift away from day-one releases, if confirmed, would represent a significant departure for Xbox Game Pass, a service whose appeal has largely been built on immediate access to Microsoft's first-party titles upon launch. However, with Gears of War: E-Day and Minecraft Dungeons II still scheduled as day-one releases, the service's current value proposition remains intact for the immediate future.
