Xbox Mythic Achievements, Microsoft's long-rumored equivalent to PlayStation's Platinum Trophies, have officially been announced and are now rolling out to Xbox Insiders. These new achievements are awarded upon unlocking all other achievements for a given game, mirroring the criteria for earning a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation consoles.
The Mythic Achievements are not impacted by Achievement-adding DLC and, crucially, will be awarded retroactively for games dating back to the Xbox 360 era. This means players who have completed games in the past may see a significant number of Mythic Achievements added to their profiles once the feature has fully rolled out to everyone.
Alongside the introduction of Mythic Achievements, Xbox is implementing an Achievement cleanup that includes a new Gaming tab for player profiles. This tab will offer a more organized view of a player's achievement hunting progress and will also allow users to view their friends' Gaming tabs.
While a specific date for the general release of Mythic Achievements has not yet been announced, players can join the Xbox Insider Program to gain early access. This can be done by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub application on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, or PC.
The introduction of Mythic Achievements comes during a period of significant change for Microsoft's gaming division. The year began with the departure of longtime Xbox leader Phil Spencer, followed by widespread layoffs and restructuring under new leadership. The most recent wave of these changes occurred last week, resulting in further layoffs and studio consolidation, including the apparent impending closure of Hellblade developer Ninja Theory.
