Microsoft is set to introduce Xbox Mythic Achievements, a feature designed to recognize 100% game completion, mirroring PlayStation's Platinum Trophies. Leaked audio files from an update to the Xbox PC app reveal the sound effect players can expect upon unlocking this prestigious award.
The new sound is a significant departure from the standard achievement unlock notification. It is described as a more grandiose and majestic audio cue, lasting approximately 15 seconds. The sound swells, builds, and then reverberates, offering a more satisfying experience than the regular ping, and even the more dramatic notification for rare achievements.
Xbox Achievements were originally launched in 2005 on the Xbox 360, pioneering standardized reward systems on consoles. This concept proved influential, leading Valve to introduce Steam achievements in 2007 and Sony to implement Trophies on the PS3 in 2008. While achievement and trophy requirements are often similar across platforms, PlayStation has long offered the Platinum Trophy as a distinct reward for unlocking every other trophy in a game, serving as a mark of full game mastery that many players collect and showcase.
Although Microsoft has not officially announced a release date for Xbox Mythic Achievements, the discovery of the unlock sound within a recent app update suggests the feature may be launching soon across the Xbox ecosystem.
