Xbox may soon introduce a "Mythic Achievement," a feature that mirrors PlayStation's Platinum Trophy and is awarded for unlocking all other achievements in a game. This development, spotted in updates to the Xbox PC App, suggests Microsoft is bringing a high-tier reward for dedicated players.
The existence of the Mythic Achievement was brought to light by Xbox observer Klobrille, who shared details of the new symbol and its associated unlock sound, which reportedly lasts for 15 seconds. TrueAchievements further noted that these Mythic Achievements are expected to carry zero Gamerscore and may be retroactive, meaning they could be awarded for past completions.
While there has been no official confirmation from Microsoft regarding the Mythic Achievement's functionality or release, this aligns with previous comments from Xbox leader Asha Sharma. Sharma had previously indicated that a Platinum Trophy equivalent was in development for release later in the year, as part of a broader overhaul of the Xbox achievement system.
The term "Mythic" itself draws parallels to the highest difficulty in the Halo franchise and is also a term used by Xbox-owned studio Blizzard to denote top-tier achievements or challenges within its games.
This potential addition comes at a tumultuous time for Xbox, which recently announced significant restructuring across its gaming divisions. Notable changes include the near closure of Halo Studios, with development of the franchise shifting to Activision, a move that has raised concerns within the Halo community. Other studios, including Ninja Theory and World's Edge, have also faced considerable layoffs or transitions as part of these widespread organizational changes.
