Microsoft has announced its robust Gamescom 2026 lineup, featuring a significant showcase of upcoming titles including the highly anticipated Fable reboot and a playable demo of Alien Isolation 2. The convention, held in Cologne, Germany, from August 26 to August 30, will host Microsoft's booth with 140 gaming stations.
Playground Games will present the first public gameplay demonstration for Fable. While not playable, the presentation will offer a look at the game's combat mechanics. The reboot of the beloved fantasy series was initially announced in 2020 and is slated for release on February 23, 2027.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to play a demo of Alien Isolation 2. Developed by Creative Assembly, the studio behind the original 2014 title, and published by Sega, the sequel was formally announced in June. The game has been in early development since at least October 2024. The playable demo is expected to be similar to the one shown to press at Summer Game Fest, which highlighted atmospheric outdoor environments and encounters with the Xenomorph.
RGG Studios' Stranger Than Heaven will also be present with a playable demo. This action-adventure game is set across five Japanese cities and eras over 50 years, featuring a unique combat system where players independently control both sides of protagonist Makoto Daito's actions. Xbox's blog post detailed the demo, which will allow players to experience combat within three of the game's five distinct settings.
Beyond these major demonstrations, Microsoft's presence at Gamescom will include unreleased games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Gears of War: E-Day, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Metro 2039, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, and Valor Mortis.
Gamescom 2026 commences with Gamescom Opening Night Live, a livestream event hosted by Geoff Keighley that typically includes new announcements. As the world's largest gaming convention by attendance, drawing over 300,000 visitors and 1,500 exhibitors last year, Microsoft's extensive showing underscores its efforts to generate positive public relations amid ongoing company restructuring.
