Xbox has officially announced and begun rolling out Mythic Achievements, the platform's long-anticipated counterpart to PlayStation's Platinum Trophies. The new feature is available starting today for users enrolled in the Xbox Insider program.
Mythic Achievements are awarded upon the completion of all original achievements for a given game. Achievements added later through DLC or updates will not affect a game's Mythic status. This system aims to recognize significant player accomplishments within the Xbox ecosystem.
A dedicated Gaming tab on player profiles will now serve as a central hub for tracking Gamerscore and achievements. Mythic Achievements will be visually distinguished by a unique heroic frame. To assist players in their pursuit of these top-tier accolades, each game's achievement list will now feature a progress bar indicating how close they are to unlocking all achievements.
Xbox has not yet provided a specific list of games that will feature Mythic Achievements at launch. However, the company's announcement indicates that players will automatically see Mythics appear for eligible titles, including those from the Xbox 360 era. It is speculated that for multi-platform games, Xbox may leverage existing PlayStation Platinum Trophy data, while Xbox exclusives would require the creation of new Mythic Achievement sets.
This rollout follows recent news of layoffs and studio closures at Xbox, including the shutdown of Ninja Theory. Xbox has also continued to be a focus for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
