Xbox's New 'Mythic' Achievements Feature a Near 15-Second Unlock Sound

Xbox is rolling out a new category of achievements called "Mythic" achievements, which function similarly to PlayStation's Platinum trophies. These achievements can only be unlocked after all other standard achievements in a game have been acquired. According to reports, Mythic achievements will be tracked separately from regular achievements, will not be influenced by DLC achievements, and will carry a Gamerscore of zero.

This new achievement tier was revealed through the Xbox app on PC following a recent update. To unlock a Mythic achievement, players must first earn every base achievement available in a game. Upon completion, an on-screen animation and a distinct sound effect are triggered. However, this new unlock sound has drawn attention for its duration, lasting nearly 15 seconds.

The implementation of Mythic achievements follows teases from Xbox leadership and insider reports over the past few weeks. Notably, this rollout coincides with recent layoffs across various Xbox Game Studios. Some observers have suggested this may be a strategic move to introduce new features while undergoing significant restructuring within the company.
