Xbox's Platinum Trophy Equivalent, Mythic Achievements, Leaks Online

Xbox's long-awaited equivalent to PlayStation's Platinum Trophy has reportedly leaked online, with details emerging about a new system called "Mythic Achievements." According to TrueAchievements, players will unlock these Mythics by collecting 100% of a game's base achievements, with any additional challenges introduced via DLC or updates not counting towards the Mythic.

The logo and sound cue for Mythic Achievements were discovered in a recent update to the Xbox PC App. The system will reportedly include a filter to help players track their progress and highlight any remaining achievements needed for a Mythic. Mythic Achievements themselves will not contribute to a player's Gamerscore, the existing metric for tracking achievement points. Upon unlocking a Mythic, the game's art in the Gaming tab of a user's profile will be updated to display the Mythic logo alongside a green border. The system is also expected to award Mythics retroactively to players who have already met the criteria.

This upcoming update is also said to bring a revamped Gaming tab to Xbox profiles, offering more detailed statistics like total Gamerscore, the number of achievements acquired, and the count of Mythic Achievements earned. TrueAchievements suggests the update could launch soon, potentially before the end of the current month. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had previously hinted at the introduction of a Platinum Trophy-like feature this year, a sentiment seemingly supported by the earlier appearance of the Mythic Achievement filter on Xbox Insider accounts.

This news follows a period of significant restructuring at Xbox. In recent months, the company has undergone multiple rounds of layoffs, impacting thousands of employees. Additionally, Xbox announced a consolidation of several game development studios, including moving the Halo franchise under Activision, Obsidian Entertainment under Bethesda, and combining the teams behind Forza and Fable. The future of Ninja Theory is also uncertain, with Microsoft reportedly seeking a new backer after divesting from the studio.
