Xbox Series X|S unit sales more than doubled in the United States during June 2026, marking the strongest month of the year for the platform. This surge represents an 86% increase compared to June 2025, according to data from Circana, formerly NPD.

Mat Piscatella of Circana noted that the previous year's sales in June 2025 were impacted by a price increase for Xbox consoles implemented in May 2025. Despite the robust performance of Xbox, the overall US video game hardware market saw a substantial decline of 62%, with total spending falling to $383 million.

The Nintendo Switch 2 experienced a significant drop in unit sales, decreasing by 78% in June 2026 compared to the same month in 2025. This decline was anticipated by Circana, as June 2025 marked the console's launch, leading to exceptionally high initial sales that make direct year-over-year comparisons challenging.

Similarly, PlayStation 5 unit sales fell by 43% in June 2026 compared to the previous year. In terms of dollar sales, Xbox Series X|S revenue more than doubled, while Switch 2 hardware spending decreased by 79% and PS5 spending dipped by 19%.

Even with the substantial gains by Xbox, the combined sales decline from PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 led to the overall market contraction. The Switch 2 remained the best-selling platform by both unit and dollar sales in June 2026, a position it also holds for the entirety of 2026 so far. The PlayStation 5 ranks second overall for the year in these metrics, with the Xbox Series X|S in third.

In game sales for June 2026, UFC 6 topped the charts as the best-selling title in the US. Looking at the year-to-date performance, Resident Evil Requiem continues to be the best-selling game of 2026 overall.
