Xbox has stepped in as the publisher for Hideo Kojima's upcoming action espionage game, "Physint," following the end of a collaboration between Kojima Productions and PlayStation. This new agreement expands on an existing partnership where Xbox is already set to publish Kojima's horror title "OD."
Physint was initially announced in January 2024 as a return to the action espionage genre for Hideo Kojima, creator of the renowned Metal Gear series. While details about the game remain scarce, the supporting cast includes actors Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, and Minami Hamabe. Kojima has not yet revealed the protagonist for Physint.
PlayStation Studios confirmed the decision to end its involvement in a social media post, stating, "After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with Kojima Productions on its project Physint. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision for the game." The statement also emphasized a strong, long-standing relationship, noting continued admiration for Kojima's work and a desire for future collaboration.
Xbox announced its role as the new publisher, with Xbox CEO Asha Sharma expressing enthusiasm for the partnership. "Creators have choices about where and how they bring their ideas to life. We’re honored that Kojima-san has chosen Xbox to work with Kojima Productions on Physint. His ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity we want to support at Xbox,” Sharma said.
Hideo Kojima commented on the expanded relationship, stating, "This expands our relationship with Xbox beyond OD. As we move forward with the development of Physint we remain committed to redefining the action-espionage genre for players around the world."
Beyond game development, the collaboration between Xbox and Kojima Productions will extend into film and television, aiming to bring new narratives to a wider audience.
Kojima previously indicated in May 2025 that Physint was likely five to six years from release, positioning it as a next-generation title. The game is anticipated to launch after "OD," Kojima's horror game in development with filmmaker Jordan Peele, and is expected to be a title for Xbox's next console, codenamed Project Helix.
