Yellow Brick Games, the studio behind the action-adventure RPG Eternal Strands, has begun laying off staff. According to various posts on LinkedIn, the extent of the reductions is not yet publicly known.
Founded in 2020 by Mike Laidlaw, formerly of Dragon Age, and a group of ex-Ubisoft developers, Yellow Brick Games self-published Eternal Strands in January 2025. The game received a free DLC expansion in April of the same year. As of April 2024, the studio reportedly comprised 68 employees.
Among those who have publicly shared news of their layoffs are Senior Environment/Hard Surface Artist Derian McCrea, Graphics Engineer Adam Clapsaddle, Software Programmer Rebecca Bélanger, QA Lead Jessica Chapados Arseneault, and Senior Level Designer Julien Tonsuso. It remains unclear if these layoffs extend beyond the individuals who have posted about their departures or if specific reasons contributed to these staff reductions. Rock Paper Shotgun has reached out to Yellow Brick Games for comment.
This news follows recent reports of layoffs affecting Ninja Theory and Supermassive Games. The games industry has seen a spate of significant job cuts recently, including Microsoft's decision to lay off approximately 3,200 workers across multiple studios, impacting teams such as Ninja Theory and World's Edge, the studio overseeing Age of Empires. CD Projekt Red, Epic Games, and Ubisoft have also announced staff reductions and studio closures in 2024.
