A fan-made 3D printable replica of Valve's ill-fated Steam Machine console can now serve a more practical, if less powerful, purpose: acting as a tissue box. The design, shared on Reddit by user Boyso, transforms the distinctive shell of the original Steam Machine into an enclosure for a standard tissue box.
The 3D files are available for download on MakerWorld. According to Boyso, the default print profiles are optimized for a 0.4mm nozzle and a smooth build plate. Additional profiles are provided for textured build plates, printing the enclosure on its side. To maintain a sense of authenticity, the creator has included two print profiles labeled "512 GB" and "2 TB," though both are functionally identical.
Boyso noted that initial reviews of the textured plate print profiles indicated some issues, and they plan to redesign those specific profiles to address the problems. As such, users may wish to avoid the textured plate options until a revised version is available. Provided a compatible print profile is used and a 3D printer is accessible, this project offers a way to bring a nod to the Steam Machine into one's home, a device that was notably expensive in its original iteration.
For those who might own a Steam Controller, there is a possibility of fitting a custom faceplate charger onto the tissue box, although the primary function remains as a dispenser for tissues.
