Rebel Moon 3 appears unlikely to materialize, according to a recent update from creator and director Zack Snyder. Both "Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire" and its sequel, "Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver," were met with critical derision following their releases on Netflix.
In a new interview promoting his film "The Last Photograph," Snyder expressed uncertainty about the prospect of a third movie. "I don't know," he stated. "...I made the director's cuts of the movies, and I just think it's like one of those things where… and I do feel that as those maybe get a little bit more popular and sort of like get discovered and there's a little bit more groundswell about maybe making another one."
This cautious response suggests that Rebel Moon 3 is not currently in development and may not move forward. Snyder's tone contrasts with his previous remarks, where he indicated he was waiting for "the dust to settle" before deciding on the franchise's future. He also mentioned he was working on an LAPD SWAT movie for Netflix and that making the two Rebel Moon films concurrently had been an exhausting process, necessitating a break.
Despite Snyder's current hesitations, co-writer Kurt Johnstad previously revealed that detailed outlines for movies three through six had been created. Johnstad expressed hope that the story could reach its intended conclusion, stating that "Zack has literally plotted out the whole world." However, he acknowledged that the decision-making power and funding lay far above his own purview, indicating that a "miracle" might be needed to revive the franchise.
