Director Zack Snyder recently made a visit to the Warner Bros. lot, marking a return to the studio years after his departure from the now-defunct DC Extended Universe following the troubled production of Justice League in 2017. Snyder posted a photo from the studio, accompanied by the Matthew Hall song “Home,” which drew attention and speculation from fans and industry observers.
Snyder's relationship with Warner Bros. had been contentious. In 2021, he described the studio as “aggressively anti-Snyder” and expressed concerns that they might retaliate if he supported the fan campaign for his cut of Justice League. That campaign ultimately led to the release of "Zack Snyder's Justice League" on HBO in 2021, a version hailed by IGN as "a surprise vindication for the director and the fans that believed in his vision."
According to Page Six Hollywood, Snyder's presence at the studio was for a staff screening of the 1981 film "Excalibur." This film holds a particular significance, as it was playing during the pivotal scene in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" where Bruce Wayne’s parents were murdered. Snyder reportedly received a "hero's welcome" at the event and participated in a Q&A session with studio heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
The visit has fueled speculation that Warner Bros. might be considering future projects with Snyder. While many executives from the challenging period of Justice League's production are no longer with the studio, some current employees reportedly expressed surprise and raised questions about the studio's intentions. Page Six Hollywood suggests that a potential distribution deal for Snyder's planned remake of "Escape From New York" could be on the table.
Snyder has previously stated that he would only direct another DC film if it were an adaptation of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns." Following his exit from the DCEU, Snyder worked with Netflix, developing his "Rebel Moon" franchise and directing "Army of the Dead" and the animated series "Twilight of the Gods."
