Zangief Actor Claims He and Co-Stars Signed for Three Street Fighter Movies

The live-action adaptation of Street Fighter is currently being written for a potential sequel, and Zangief actor Olivier Richters has indicated that he and his co-stars have signed contracts for a total of three films.

Richters shared this information in the comments section of a YouTube video discussing the portrayal of his character. He stated that the initial goal was to "show a glimpse of Zangief and his power, so we all want more." According to Richters, the promise was that if a sequel was made, Zangief would get an opportunity to shine.

While contracts do not guarantee production, Richters' comment suggests that plans are in place for at least two more installments in the franchise, with the entire cast reportedly committed to returning. The actor also addressed criticisms that the first film "ruined" Zangief, explaining that the script simply did not allow for extensive character development for many fighters beyond Ryu and Ken due to the two-hour runtime and large cast. He drew a parallel to the Mortal Kombat reboot, where the first film focused on introducing characters and the world, with the subsequent film allowing for more action and character focus.
