The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has removed a popular cheat that allowed players to easily win the Cucco minigame at Lon Lon Ranch. In the original Nintendo 64 release, players could find three special Cuccos by first gathering all other Cuccos in the room and placing them in a corner before the minigame began.
This exploit made it simple to identify the correct Cuccos, which are otherwise mixed within a flock and must be found within a time limit. The original game charged rupees to play, making a quick win particularly valuable early on. While this method is no longer possible in the remake, the game's controls have been streamlined, making the minigame itself easier to complete on the first try without resorting to trickery.
Other minor exploits have also been addressed in the remake. For instance, players can no longer collect rupees by climbing the chains of Hyrule Castle's drawbridge, as they will now pass straight through them. However, some player tricks remain, such as the ability to turn butterflies into fairies by striking them with a Deku Stick, a feature apparently present in the original game as well.
The remake also appears to retain the option to complete some dungeons out of their intended order, and the ability to use the Lens of Truth to cheat at the Chest Minigame is expected to remain. The changes suggest a focus on refining the player experience while preserving key gameplay elements. The ability to easily obtain Lon Lon Milk from the chicken game is now a matter of skill rather than a clever exploit.
