Just four months after the release of Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, and two months after laying off a significant number of employees, Studio ZA/UM has announced Zero Parades: Director's Cut. This major update will add approximately 40,000 words of new content, a new encounter, and various other improvements and fixes. The Director's Cut is described as the definitive edition of the espionage RPG, promising more story, scenery, and mind-bending elements for players aiming to reunite The Whole Sick Crew.
The centerpiece of the Director's Cut appears to be Quisach Roundabout, a new "dramatic encounter" centered around escaping the titular roundabout. This scenario features characters Hershel and Ramses finding themselves "stoned out of their minds, behind the wheel of a hijacked tuk-tuk" and struggling to exit the roundabout. The objective is to take the correct exit home, with failure potentially leading to existential or fatal consequences.
The Director's Cut also includes a new "backstage mode" that offers technical insights into the game's development, showcases cut content, and shares stories from art director Kaspar Tamsalu. Players can also expect new clothing, interactions, death screens, and "atmospheric additions," alongside several quality-of-life improvements.
The rapid release of the Director's Cut, just four months after the original game, is notable. This contrasts with other major updates like Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, which arrived over a year after its initial release. The studio previously cited the commercial performance of Zero Parades as a reason for laying off up to 32 employees in July.
The Director's Cut will be released as a free update for existing owners on October 1. It will also coincide with the game's launch on PlayStation 5, scheduled for November 3.
