ZA/UM Studio has unveiled a Director's Cut version of their RPG Zero Parades, set to launch as a free update for PC players on October 1. Alongside this, the game's console edition will arrive on November 3. The developer has not yet confirmed if the console edition will be available on Xbox or Nintendo Switch.
The Director's Cut represents the culmination of post-launch support for the PC version and will be available at no additional cost to all existing owners. This expanded edition promises "substantial new material" that ZA/UM Studio claims will make the game feel "tangibly different" from its initial release.
A significant addition to the Director's Cut is the "Quisach Roundabout," a new Dramatic Encounter. This scenario places players in the shoes of Hershel Wilk and an old friend, who find themselves in a precarious situation behind the wheel of a hijacked tuk-tuk, attempting to escape a late-night Quisach Roundabout. The encounter introduces approximately 40,000 words of new narrative content.
Furthermore, the Director's Cut includes a feature called "Backstage." This allows players to explore earlier iterations of select game levels, observing how they evolved during development. The Backstage area will also showcase the "technical steps and creative processes" involved in these changes. Interactive "in-game orbs" within Backstage will provide audio stories and commentary from developers, narrated by art director Kaspar Tamsalu, offering insights into the game's creation and elements that were ultimately cut.
Beyond new content, the update brings enhancements to Zero Parades' presentation and gameplay. This includes re-recorded English voiceovers, new outfits, updated death screens, and additional visual and atmospheric features. Technical improvements are also a key focus, with the Director's Cut introducing ultrawide support for 2:19 and 32:9 displays, controller remapping, inventory sorting, and a new Photosensitivity Mode. Players seeking more privacy options will find the ability to obscure parts of conversations with redaction bars.
The update also addresses accessibility with expanded colorblind options and Steam Deck settings, which will be detailed further on a Steam post prior to launch. Additional audio, control, and interface improvements are also included.
Zero Parades received critical acclaim upon its release, with GameSpot scoring it an 8/10. Reviewer Richard Wakeling praised the game as an "excellent RPG" with "varied and mostly well-defined characters, a fully realized setting encompassed by insurmountable depth, and an endlessly captivating narrative that offers myriad ways to maneuver through its fantastic twists and turns."
