The demo for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse contains a hidden weapon, the Cestus gauntlets, which offer a potent melee option for players willing to explore beyond the main path. These powerful gloves can be found by thoroughly exploring the Paris sewers.
Accessing the Secret Weapon
To acquire the Cestus, players must first obtain the Arcane Whip. This ability is unlocked after defeating the boss known as The Fallen. The Arcane Whip allows Rose Belmont to latch onto golden and purple Anchors, enabling traversal to previously inaccessible areas and the ability to hook onto enemies.
Once the Arcane Whip is in hand, navigate to the Sewer Reservoir. This area is located just after the first Mirror of Life save point. Within the Sewer Reservoir, use the Arcane Whip to ascend to the upper levels of the room. Players should aim to reach a grate platform situated in the center of the large staircase in the background. From this position, use the Arcane Whip directly above to reveal a hidden Anchor. Hooking onto this Anchor will allow Rose to propel herself upwards to a new area.
This hidden path leads to a room containing a large treasure chest. Interacting with this chest rewards the player with the Cestus and a congratulatory message from the developers. Following this discovery, the room fills with enemies, providing an immediate opportunity to test the Cestus's capabilities.
Utilizing the Cestus
The Cestus is a pair of combat gloves designed for rapid attacks. Their damage output increases with each consecutive hit, making them a formidable close-range weapon. As Rose lands more punches with the Cestus, she will glow, indicating an escalation in her damage. This effect persists as long as the player maintains a combo, fading only after a brief period of inactivity.
When used in conjunction with the Arcane Whip, performing an attack immediately after latching onto an enemy with the whip results in a powerful Uppercut. This special move is particularly effective against the zombies encountered in the Paris sewers.
