Faults are unique portals in Control Resonant that transport players to an abstract dimension, serving as crucial steps in the "Search for Jesse" main story quest. Completing these Faults is essential for acquiring new traversal abilities, which significantly enhance exploration by allowing abilities such as wall-walking and enhanced aerial movement.
These abilities are instrumental in navigating the game world, overcoming obstacles, and reaching previously inaccessible areas. Players are advised to prioritize completing Faults whenever they are encountered, especially those who enjoy thorough exploration of the game's environment.
Downtown — Prologue Fault
The initial Fault is encountered during the game's prologue and is mandatory for progression. Its completion grants the player their first set of traversal abilities:
- Double-Jump: Allows for an additional jump while in mid-air.
- Elevate: Players can hold the jump button while airborne to ascend vertically.
- Rush: Holding the sprint button increases movement speed, and can also be performed mid-air after a sprint jump.
West Incursion Zone — The Incursion Fault
Located at the bottom of a pit in the Parking Garage within the West Incursion Zone, this Fault is accessible via the back entrance of a laundromat. After obtaining a key from a floating body, players must navigate to the top of the garage and descend into the large opening.
Completing The Incursion Fault rewards the player with the Shift ability, which enables movement on vertical surfaces and even upside-down structures.
Evacuation Zone — The Subway Fault
Found at the Railyard Street Station in the northeast section of the Evacuation Zone, this Fault requires players to navigate past moving subway trains. Upon reaching the station, players can access the Fault.
The Subway Fault grants the Reach ability, allowing players to launch themselves towards translucent orbs situated on the edges of rooftops and walls, facilitating greater aerial mobility.
The Underpass Fault
Situated at the end of a tunnel at the base of Tubes Island in the northwest part of the Underpass zone, this Fault is found by approaching Tubes Island from the north and entering an opening in the side of a pillar. Following this path leads directly to the Fault.
While The Underpass Fault does not grant a new traversal ability, its completion offers significant narrative progression by revealing more about the protagonist's past.
