Final Fantasy: Resonance's First Esper Boss Siren Can Be Overcome With These Items

The early hours of Final Fantasy: Resonance present players with several tutorial bosses, but the first true challenge arrives in the form of Siren, the esper boss found atop her spiral tower. Siren's potent attacks, particularly her ability to inflict Charm on the party, can quickly turn the tide of battle against unprepared players. However, with the right preparations and strategic exploitation of her weaknesses, Siren can be defeated.

Countering Siren's Charm

When Siren's health drops to approximately half, she begins using her signature attack, Allure, which casts Charm on the entire party. This status effect causes characters to attack their allies, potentially leading to rapid party wipeouts, especially on Normal or Expert difficulty settings. Several methods can mitigate or nullify Charm.

The Monk's Prayer Beads accessory prevents Charm on the wearer. Two can be purchased from the armor merchant in Granport Harbor for 1,500 gil each. An additional pair can be found in a chest en route to the boss arena, and another is obtainable by completing Chloe's "Secrets Unearthed" sidequest. Equipping these Prayer Beads offers a direct counter to Siren's most troublesome ability.

Alternatively, equipping the character Leah grants Charm immunity through her "Nullify Charm" passive ability. This is particularly recommended for Fina if she is chosen as the party's primary healer.

Spells and abilities like Esuna or the Pray ability can cure ailments, including Charm. However, Siren can also cast Silence, which renders Pray unusable. If Fina has Leah equipped, she can still utilize Pray even when Silenced, allowing her to remove Charm from affected party members.

The most effective strategy involves acquiring three Monk's Prayer Beads, either by purchasing one and finding two or by other means. This allows all three characters to be equipped with Charm-nullifying gear. Critically, this also frees up Fina's accessory slot, enabling her to equip Tronn, which grants access to powerful Lightning spells.

Exploiting Elemental Weaknesses

Siren is notably weak to Lightning-based attacks. Players should aim to equip characters with items that grant access to these spells. While Tronn can be equipped to Lasswell, it is ideal to have Cloud equipped to Lasswell and Tronn to Fina. This combination provides both characters with access to Lightning spells, such as Tronn's Thunder and Cloud's Thunder Surge. Rain should be equipped with the Warrior of Light for consistent Thunder Blade usage.

During opportune moments, such as after achieving a "Sweeping Stagger," players can unleash a Resonance skill. Ascension, Cloud's special ability, deals significant Lightning damage and is highly effective against Siren.

General Combat Considerations

Beyond specific preparations for Charm and elemental weaknesses, players should aim to be at least level 11 before engaging Siren. A lower level puts the party at a disadvantage in both damage output and stagger buildup. While Siren's individual attacks are not overwhelmingly powerful, sustained damage without adequate healing can be detrimental.

Ensure at least one or two characters have sufficient MP reserves for healing. Siren's ability to cast Silence can temporarily disable magic-based healing, making Potions a necessary backup for maintaining party health during these periods.

Upon defeating Siren, players gain access to her as a summonable esper for future battles. Final Fantasy: Resonance is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
