Renown is a crucial statistic in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, directly impacting your ability to recruit new team members and unlocking various gameplay enhancements. While some characters may require a Support Level of only 3, others demand a Renown level of 10, making its acquisition a significant undertaking. It is vital to approach Renown gain with patience, as each Flame Lord's campaign builds Renown independently, and rushing for short-term gains could jeopardize more important rewards.
Completing Main Story Battles
The most substantial Renown boosts naturally come from progressing through the game's main story battles. Completing these encounters, especially those set in the arena, can yield around 500 Renown points. While this method alone may not be sufficient to reach the highest Renown ranks, it offers a significant advantage for subsequent chapters, especially if other avenues have been exhausted.
Utilizing Flame Lord-Specific Methods
Each of the four main characters, or Flame Lords, in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave possesses a unique Renown-generating system. Focusing free time activities on these methods is the primary path to higher Renown ranks.
Cai's approach is straightforward. In addition to subquests, NPCs in Dagsion marked with a hand icon offer Kindness Quests. These require traveling to a designated location, either within Dagsion or on the World Map, and completing a specific objective.
Dietrich's Renown strategies revolve around combat. His Answerer's Cry ability summons enemies for two turns, providing a small Renown gain and Echo Shards upon their defeat. Repeatedly using this ability on the world map gradually decreases its range, which slowly recovers over time or instantly upon entering/exiting a base or exploring a dungeon. Alternatively, Dietrich can challenge Dread Warriors in dungeons through tasks given by the Headhunter in Dagsion, offering a larger Renown reward and the opportunity to learn new Combat Arts.
Theodora employs Supply Quests, which require gathering specific materials and delivering them to Bonaventure. Recruiting a sufficient number of battalions and assigning them to collect the necessary resources is key. The World Map spaces with icons indicate obtainable resources, aiding in efficient material gathering. Theodora can also search map spaces or explore dungeons, where materials respawn with each entry, even after defeating enemies and looting chests.
Leda's Perform Quests are similar to Dietrich's location-based tasks, but instead of combat, she earns Renown and Blaze Arts by performing dances in taverns. Performances outside of Dagsion can also reveal secret map locations with rare materials.
Subquests and Temple Visits
While subquests initially offer modest Renown gains, later ones provide significant boosts. Completing them is generally beneficial due to other rewards. It is important to note that subquests only need to be completed once per campaign; if you start a new campaign from the beginning, all previously completed subquests will instantly grant their Renown. However, switching campaigns mid-game requires re-completing them manually. Visiting temples on the in-game map in Dagsion when they glow yellow allows for a weekly audience with the temple's god, granting a small Renown increase.
Completing Paralogues
Paralogues, or side stories, award 20,000 gold, a unique item, and 150 Renown upon completion. They also carry story implications and are sometimes necessary for recruiting specific characters. Not all Flame Lords can participate in every Paralogue, as the initiating NPCs may not be recruitable by them. Each Paralogue has specific chapter and date requirements for each Flame Lord to begin.
Renown Level Rewards
Reaching Renown Level 3 unlocks the Feast option on the World Map, and subsequent levels offer a range of benefits. These include unlocking new meal options at inns, specialty and advanced class exams, improved training grounds effects, and additional mentor lessons for Cai. Theodora receives buffs to recruiting battalions and deploying more of them. At higher levels, the armory gains access to refined weapons, and the Thermae become available. Renown Level 10 adds weapons refined to +2 to the armory and increases tribute from temple service, while Level 11 and 12 offer valuable bonus items.
