The "An Unheard Farewell" side quest in Valor Mortis tasks players with locating the missing scouts of a distressed Adjudant Sous-Officer. This quest is found in Chapter 2 of the game. Players will encounter the Adjudant near his wagon after defeating the grenadier and before descending a large, broken bridge.
Starting the Quest
To begin "An Unheard Farewell," players must approach the Adjudant, who will be calling out for assistance from his wagon. After listening to his story, players can choose to help him find his scouting party.
Quest Walkthrough
Once the quest is accepted, players should locate the Demolished Path lantern near the Adjudant's wagon. From there, follow the path down the broken bridge, jumping between platforms until further descent is impossible. Pass through the small wagon on the left to acquire the pistol weapon. The next lantern marks the area where players must climb rocks and shoot a glowing orb to activate an elevator.
Ascend the elevator as high as possible, navigating through the subsequent tunnel and caves. After a parkour section outside, players will encounter a purple glob blocking the elevator. Shoot the two glowing orbs to fully unlock the elevator. Instead of proceeding upwards, players should descend and search for a narrow ledge between the previously entered tunnel and the highest elevator level.
This ledge leads to a hidden cave entrance blocked by a web-like substance. Use fire transmutation to clear the path and enter the cave. Inside, players will face an elite soldier. This mini-boss is faster and deals more damage than regular soldiers, while also taking less damage. Parrying attacks is key to dealing posture damage and creating an opening to strike. Once the elite soldier's health is low, finish him with the pistol.
Quest Completion and Reward
Before leaving the cave, players should read the letter found within to discover the fate of the soldiers and collect the pure blade material from a treasure chest. Afterwards, return to the Adjudant Sous-Officer. Players have the option to tell him the truth about his missing squad or to lie. Regardless of the choice, the Adjudant will not believe them. Upon completing "An Unheard Farewell," players will be rewarded with the Sleight of Hand amber, which decreases reload times for firearms and speeds up weapon switching.
