The Co-Director, also identified as The Unknown Resonant, presents one of Control Resonant's most challenging boss fights, notable for being the only encounter with a strict time limit.
The Co-Director Boss Strategy
Upon initiating the fight, a meter with wavy lines will appear at the bottom of the screen. This meter represents The Co-Director's attempt to take control of Dylan. If this meter fills completely, the fight will end automatically, resulting in failure. Therefore, defeating The Co-Director swiftly is paramount. If players struggle, it is recommended to increase their Power Level and unlock new Talents to enhance offensive capabilities.
The Co-Director employs a variety of attacks:
- Controlling Enemies: The Co-Director will turn allied rangers, and potentially player summons, against the player. These controlled allies must be defeated to prevent taking additional damage.
- Spin Attack: When the player is in close proximity, The Co-Director may perform a spin attack. This is often preceded by him crouching and the surrounding rangers drawing closer.
- Purple Lasers: The Co-Director fires a homing purple laser when he has no allies to command.
- Purple Energy Balls: Rangers surrounding The Co-Director can launch projectiles of purple energy.
- Moving Spin Attack: After depleting roughly a quarter of his health, The Co-Director will use a mobile version of his spin attack, attempting to chase the player.
- Slam Attack: At approximately half health, The Co-Director may raise his left arm and slam it onto the ground.
- Rocket Launchers: In the final quarter of the fight, surrounding rangers will launch rockets, requiring players to dodge.
- Exploding Ranger: Towards the end of the fight, any remaining rangers under The Co-Director's command may explode. While not always encountered, players at low health should attempt to avoid this.
To expedite the battle and avoid the timer, focus on filling The Co-Director's falter meter, which makes him take double damage and stand still, offering a prime opportunity for significant damage. Applying mold or fire status effects, ideally both for an explosive effect, is highly effective.
As The Co-Director is airborne, mid-air combat is constant. To effectively dodge his spin attack and maintain proximity, players can utilize the pillars scattered throughout the arena to enhance movement speed. The grapple ability is useful for quickly attaching to nearby pillars.
It is crucial to defeat the rangers The Co-Director commands, as they will attack the player if left unchecked. Two sets of rangers appear: one at the start of the fight and another around the halfway point.
Players should exercise caution when using their own summons, as The Co-Director can take control of them. Using only one summon at a time, such as mold summons, can mitigate this risk. A high-defense build may also help reduce the impact of summoned allies being turned against the player.
