As players progress toward the conclusion of Valor Mortis, they will inevitably find themselves imprisoned within the Fortress by Napoleon Bonaparte. Fortunately, his Emissary intervenes, offering a chance to escape and set things right. The prison environment can be disorienting, particularly with the presence of Eternal Guardsmen and the initial absence of the player's gear.
Escaping the Prison
The prison, while appearing complex, is largely a linear area. The primary objective is to reach the upper level's rafters by utilizing climbable crates. This path allows players to bypass guards and acquire the crucial Armoury Key.
Players should navigate through the prison tunnels until they reach an open wooden door leading into a room. Proceed through this room and keep to the right, following a long corridor that features a Nepthtoglobin node. At the corridor's end is a locked gate requiring the Armoury Key. Instead of proceeding through the gate, turn right and ascend the staircase nearby.
Enter the first open room on the left and use the crates within to access the rafters. Follow the rafters, which may require jumping across small gaps, towards a specific room. Inside this room, the Armoury Key can be found on a table.
Reclaiming Your Gear
With the Armoury Key in hand, return to the long corridor containing the locked gate. Unlock the gate to access the chamber where the player's gear is stored in a chest.
Finding the Exit
After recovering your equipment, the mice Mimi and Agnes will advise seeking a door marked with a Shrike sign. This door serves as the exit and is located in the same corridor as the gear chest, past the Nepthtoglobin node. Shoot the node and proceed through the door to enter the sewers beneath the prison, eventually leading to a Lantern.
This concludes the prison escape sequence, preparing players for the challenges that lie ahead.
