Players looking to tackle Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's DMZ mode alone can do so by disabling the squad fill option. While not immediately obvious, this setting can be found on the deployment screen before entering a match.
Enabling Solo Play
When preparing to deploy from the forward-operating base, players select their desired deployment type, such as a story mission, dynamic operation, or free roam, followed by an infiltration method. The subsequent screen displays the operator, inventory, and loadout choices. In the bottom left corner of this screen is a "squad fill" toggle. Turning this setting off ensures that players will load into DMZ by themselves, rather than being paired with other random solo players.
Playing solo offers several advantages in DMZ. Players can keep all the loot they acquire for themselves, making stealth easier whether avoiding other players or AI-controlled soldiers. It also allows for the pursuit of specific story missions and dynamic operations without needing to compromise with teammates.
While squad play can be beneficial for tackling difficult missions and bosses, skilled players with adequate gear can also complete these objectives solo. The option to go it alone provides a more personalized and potentially stealthier approach to the DMZ experience.
