Mortal Shell 2: How to Complete Baghead's Quest

Finding your way through Mortal Shell 2 can be a daunting task, and some of the game's quests are as peculiar as its world. One such quest involves the enigmatic Baghead, a character returning from the first game with a uniquely tricky request. This guide details how to find Baghead, what he truly desires, and the surprising outcome of his quest.

Locating Baghead

Baghead can be found in Mortal Shell 2 at the Desolate Peak, a rocky outcrop situated in the western part of the Fainweald region. Accessing this area can be achieved through a couple of paths. One route involves traveling north-northwest towards the Citadel of Penance, where a jump-off point near the lowland cliffs leads to Baghead's location. Alternatively, from the Widow's Overlook beacon in Fainweald, players can head south, traverse the burned field where the Gloombound Flame was acquired, and proceed past the Stone Crabs to use a gateway leading to the southern Ruins of Nochte.

The Special Moonshine Offering

Upon meeting Baghead, players should engage him in conversation and indicate they are unlike others. He will then request a special gift. Players can find the Special Moonshine item within crates located outside a ruined building near Baghead. Initially, this item appears to be the intended offering. However, presenting the Special Moonshine to Baghead will result in his rejection of the gift.

Inside the same ruined building, players will also find the Crypt Key, which can be used to unlock a dungeon area adjacent to the Stones of Remembrance. This key is separate from Baghead's quest.

The True Offering: Nothing

The solution to Baghead's request lies in a cryptic clue found within a letter penned by one of his followers inside the ruined building. The letter reads: "The more I give, the less he cares. Why must our master test me so? I've given up all that I own, abandoned my kin. And yet he says I don't understand nothing." This suggests that the actual offering Baghead seeks is not a material item, but the absence of one.

To complete the quest correctly, players must interact with the spot where the Special Moonshine was initially found and place it back. This action will register as "-1 Special Moonshine," signifying that the item has been relinquished, effectively giving nothing.

Unlocking the Joke Ending

After giving Baghead nothing, players should speak with him again and confirm their offering when prompted repeatedly. This action will trigger a cutscene that reveals a secret joke ending for Mortal Shell 2. In this ending, the player character assumes Baghead's role, playing a lute on a throne surrounded by followers.

The Harbinger, having accepted the role of the new Baghead, strums along on the lute to a bunch of dancing followers in Mortal Shell 2.

This outcome mirrors the secret ending from the first Mortal Shell, where completing Baghead's requests led to a peaceful, albeit unconventional, existence. Following the cutscene, the game's credits will roll. Upon returning to the game world, the player will respawn at their last activated beacon, allowing them to continue their main journey through the game.
